Changes

Some people love change. They are the ones that are always moving furniture around, trying new restaraunts, and exploring new ways to do things. Other people hate change. They can hardly stand it if something needs to be moved, the restraunt stopped serving their favorite dish, or someone suggests they vacation someplace other than "where they've always gone." They might even still be using VHS tapes!

But one thing is certain. Change is inevitable, whether we love it or hate it.

I guess I am in the middle, but probably lean to the not liking change side.

I mean, I like trying new things, but most of the time it takes me quite awhile to get used to something new. I have even been known to throw a big fit when something changes and I just can't seem to get used to it. (Gasp! I know you never would've guessed it, huh)

Moving on to my point...

Two weeks ago, we had a big change in our household. Our middle son, Jensen started public school! To many of you, that is not that big of a deal, but in our house it was! I don't need to go into any details, but Randy and I both felt that he was ready. And it was a good time to try things out during the second semester of 4th grade until waiting until the start of the school year in the Fall. After being homeschooled his whole life until now, it was a big change and it has taken everyone a while to get used to. Especially me.

He has been doing very well and has a wonderful Christian teacher who we also happpen to go to church with (this made our decision a lot easier). When asked, he says his favorite subjects are lunch and P.E. (don't most kids say this?!!) and has already been on a bowling field trip and is looking forward to the 4th grade field trip in a few weeks to Sacramento! He already knew a few kids from playing soccer with them last Fall, and has made some new friends as well. He is doing very well in all subjects, even almost caught up in math, which he was a little behind in at the beginning. So far it has been a positive experience for him and we are praying daily for him to be a little missionary to the kids in the school!

It has been a little tougher for me now, feeling pulled in many directions and missing my time with Jensen. It is hard to be doing both homeschool and public school, as the days have now become much longer for me! Again with the change! The other two boys have had mixed feelings about their brother going to school, and still can't decide if it's better or worse! For me, school these past few weeks has definitely been much harder.

As usual, we're not quite sure what this will look like for our family in a year or two, but we are trusting that when we keep seeking the Lord in all things He will make known His paths for us.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

Jensen, on his 10th birthday

I'll be praying for these changes you shared!! I totally know what you mean when it comes to change, it's sometimes hard to adjust to, but it can be a huge blessing in the end!

Hello, I just found your blog through the Holt message board. Our family is also adopting from Holt's WC list and our LID is August. I can't wait to get to know you and follow your journey. Your family is beautiful. I hope we get our newsletter soon to see how many referrals went out this past month. God bless, Rhea Anne Wyatt

I think it is great that you are able to assess each of your children's needs and do what is best. I now that it can be scary. I'm glad that Jensen is doing so well. God is good!
