In case you were wondering... {An Adoption Public Service Announcement}

*Ethiopia posts interrupted briefly to bring you this public service announcement. If you know anyone who is adopted please read this. And if you are reading this blog, then that means you- because at the very least you know our family!

This is something I have been wanting to write about for some time, but to be quite honest I didn't feel like I had the right words or even the experience (yet). And then another amazing adoptive mom, Tracy at Unveiled Faces wrote this post and I knew that it needed to be shared. Go here to read the post.

I know that anytime someone asks about our children or makes a comment- they are not trying to be insensitive, most people are just curious. The truth is that although we have gotten many questions (a lot of them sweet, but some pretty rude) asked by others about Elliana, it is nothing like what we have already heard being asked about our 2 in Ethiopia. I am not sure what people are thinking, but when they hear we are adopting, especially from Africa- so many immediately start with the super personal, invasive questions without even thinking twice about what they are saying or asking.

And our kids are not even with us yet.

There's a lot more that I could say about all of this, but I want to glorify God and protect the privacy of my children. I struggle at different times on how much I should share on this very public blog and when it comes down to it- the blog is written by me. Not them. I feel that the Lord has given me this outlet and small platform to be able to share what HE is doing in our lives and to share HIS story and that is what I will continue to do. I LOVE sharing about the miracles that He has done and about all the events that have happened surrounding this adoption. But, I want to make sure that I am not sharing things about my kids that are not mine to share. Someday if they want to tell their story- they can. But for now, I want to protect them as much as possible.

So please--- before you say something to a child who has been adopted (from ANYWHERE) read this and think about what you are saying. I know that reading her post and others like it have opened my eyes as well about things that I was telling friends without thinking.

Thanks! Ethiopia posts to resume soon! :)
